“When my husband died of brain cancer in 2019, after a long illness, not only did me and my two children (5 and 8 at the time) lose him, we lost all of his income and his army pension to me was halved. This pushed me into the next bracket so I lost child support (this was before the current changes). The financial impact of this was dreadful on top of everything else. The government do send £350 widows payment per month for 18 months and then that stops.
I was told about the Children’s Charity by my boss and applied, having never claimed anything ever before. They were so kind and accepted the children.
My son went on to attempt suicide 4 times and was diagnosed with complex needs and autism. We had appointment after appointment and some funded again by the Charity to find him the best help.
6 years on today I find myself in a much better position, we have moved to a smaller house, I have managed to get a temporary promotion and I get disability payments to help with my son.
The Charity has been a lifeline and I can’t thank all the supporters and the Charity enough for getting us through some bleak times. I leave now in a better place and to allow others in need to benefit as we have. I will forever be a supporter of this Charity, it does so much good, without stigma or fanfare, just quiet, much needed support.
I would like to thank the charity for the much needed support over the years, but now find myself financially ok and happy to not take any further money and let other families benefit as we have for the last 6 years.
Thank you so much
