Thomas Family Story

Tragedy happened to our family in October 1999 when my husband Neil suffered a devastating stroke. This left him with profound disabilities both physical and cognitive impairments. He had the stroke following surgery that he needed after an incident at work. Neil had served with Cleveland Police for just short of 20 years service.

At the time of this tragic event I was 8 weeks pregnant with our first daughter Chloé.

Born on May 6th 2000 Chloé has always been a little fighter and truly lived life to the full. She had many dreams as a little girl but her love of seeing the world has always played a huge part in her success.

The Police Children’s Charity has been instrumental in Chloé’s dreams becoming reality. Not only was she able to attend university, her dream of graduating in Canada was made to come true with the Charities financial help.

Chloé’s little sister Leah, now 16 years old has also been following her dream and love of horses thanks to the charity. Bringing up two girls on my own has had its challenges but I can’t be more proud of the young ladies they are becoming.

Their dreams have been fulfilled with the help and support from the Police Children’s  Charity and we will be forever grateful for their continued support.

Life is tough for many people however, knowing you have this kind of support is priceless and knowing our children are supported at the most difficult times is something we as a family will always remember.

Although still very much effected by the stroke Neil does have limited speech now and walks with the aid of a walking stick,  huge improvements from 25 years ago.

The girls have without doubt kept us both going!
